  • The struggle is real. Life is a circle, and I’m now convinced it loops more than once! I’m still trying to catch my breath with the ever changing whirlwind that is motherhood. Littles become bigs. My body continues to have a mind of its own. And the only certain thing in life is CHANGE…always, without fail, the never ending beautifully intricate web of change that is both longed for and resisted against.
Anyone else feeling this tween angst of motherhood & adulting?

  • It’s not complicated. Sourdough is one of the oldest forms of bread baking. Don’t over think it. I’ve been making sourdough for going on 6 years and this has been my method since the beginning.

I’m not as motivated to bake sourdough in the heat of summer, so sometimes my starter will sit in my fridge for several weeks to a month+ and this is what I do every time.
1. Remove from fridge.
2. Let it get to room temp (usually a few hours, or overnight)
3. Pour off the booch
4. If the jar has gotten crusty - I pour the starter into a bowl, wash the jar with hot soapy water. Rinse and dry well and pour the starter back in the jar.
5. The amount of starter shown - about 1.5 cups - is all I keep in my main feeding jar. I have a discard jar I use for recipes or gifting to local friends.
6. I feed it about 1/4c of organic flour and add about 1/8c of filtered water.
7. Stir and let it sit for a few hours until nice and bubbly so I can prep the dough! (Float test is super helpful here).

Any tips or tricks you’ve learned in your sourdough baking journey? Drop them below! Love learning all the things!

  • As summer winds down, school doors open and temperatures begin to cool, my heart always meanders to the big feels of how quickly time is flying. How each summer my kids are more and more independent. It went from hyper vigilance at the pool to them running off to the pool by themselves. From being babysat to babysitting for friends. From me making every snack and meal and treat to them beginning to make things for me. This summer I chose to savor more moments with them instead of being caught up in the chase to accomplish more. I chose to slow down and breathe more deeply. And it was glorious. Was it perfect? Absolutely not, but even in the chaos of just real life, I found myself seeing more the value of doing less to actually do more.

Because the quote above hits me deep and sometimes allowing myself to sit in the truth of life and its ever evolving reality can heal and prepare a heart for the future in ways busyness and doing more never could.
